Headlines: Top media ad news in India for the week (Date: 25th April – 1st May 2022)

BARC has released its industry-first CER (Customized Event Report) data. The data shows that Aaj Tak witnessed significant growth in its viewership for the Jahangirpuri encroachment coverage on Apr 20, 2022.

Viacom18 has launched a sports channel called Sports18 Khel on the FTA (free-to-air) platform DD FreeDish. The network is aiming to provide relevant content across a range of sports in Hindi to FTA viewers.

The Badminton Asia Championships 2022 was broadcasted on Sony Sports Network India. The tournament was aired on Sony TEN 2 channels between Apr 29 to May 1. The channel is aiming to broadcast a range of sports events apart from cricket and football.

A new Hindi GEC will be launched in the first week of June, called Atarangi-Dekhte Raho. The channel aims to bring quality content for the HSM (Hindi speaking market) along with a rich online programming line-up of 4 hours. 

Network18 is going to launch Local18 on digital platforms. Avinash Kaul, CEO of  Network18 shared in the E4M NewsNext virtual conference that the digital channel aims to bring local district news in one place. 

The CEO of Spotify, Daniel EK has said that the audio OTT platform is doing incredibly well in India, and there’s a huge opportunity of growth in the future. The streaming platform garnered a 24% rise in revenue in the first quarter of 2022. 

Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are betting big on India, due to the growth potential of OTT viewership in the country. Netflix has slashed subscription cost by 60% to expand its base in India, while Prime video has announced to double investments in Indian content, especially in vernacular languages. 

RAM Ratings Week 09’22-Week 12’22: Radio Mirchi retains top position in Mumbai, Fever FM in Delhi. Big FM tops the spot in Bangalore, while Radio Mirchi in Kolkata.

BARC’s top 5 advertisers of week 16 (16th April – 22nd April 2022)  are – Hindustan Lever Ltd, Reckitt Benckiser (India) Ltd, Coca Cola India Ltd., ITC, Pepsi Foods.

According to BARC weekly data, the following were the top 5 paid TV channels in week 16 (16th April – 22nd April 2022) – Paid– Star Sports 1 Hindi,Sun TV, Star Maa, Star Plus, Dangal.
