This year is going to be exciting as BCCI is all set to begin the much-awaited Women’s Premier League Season 1 in India with 5 teams. The Women’s Premier League 2023 is the next upcoming league this year and one of the biggest sports events in India. BCCI Council is premiering the Women’s Premier League 2023 which is scheduled in March just after the completion of Women’s cricket world cup in 2023.

After the success of the Men’s IPL, this event conducted by BCCI is going to be epic! The Women’s T20 Challenge which is the predecessor of the WPL started as a single-match tournament in the year 2018 and expanded to a three-team, three-match competition held in 2019, 2020, and 2022. The Women’s Premier League 2023 Schedule, format, and rules of the games will be the same as that of Men’s IPL. The tournament will consist of 5 teams and a total of 22 matches, with the first season being played in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

Women’s Premier League 2023 Schedule 

The first season of the Women’s Premier League 2023 will be played from March 2023 onwards. Five teams will initially compete against one another in a double round-robin style, with the three teams who finish with the highest points advancing to the competition’s playoff rounds. The BCCI claims that if the league is a success, the number of games and teams will be raised in upcoming seasons. 

All games in the first season will take place between March 4 and March 26, 2023, at the D.Y.Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium. It will begin eight days after the conclusion of the Women’s T20 World Cup. The media rights for the first five years of the Women’s Premier League were awarded to Viacom18 on January 16, according to BCCI. For the 2023–2027 season, the winning bid of INR 951 crore equates to INR 7.09 crore per game.

While auctioning off the five franchises in the newly launched Women’s Premier League, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secured a massive Rs. 4669.99 Crores.

Women’s Premier League Auction Date

Women’s Premier League 2023 auction date is on February 13, 2023, Mumbai will host the first player auction to purchase players through open bidding and determine the squads for each franchise. The BCCI league is the second most valuable women’s sports league in the world, just behind the Women’s National Basketball Association of the United States, according to Jack Genovese of the media analysis company Ampere Analytics. 

In the documents sent to the Indian players, the BCCI has asked both capped and uncapped cricketers to register online to be entered in the player auction register. Approximately Rs 4670 crore was earned by BCCI through the sale of the five teams. The franchise in Ahmedabad, which was purchased by Adani-owned Sports Line Private Limited, cost approximately Rs 1239 crore.

Players who excelled in the T20 format are likely to receive a bid in the Women’s Premier League 2023 Auction. The following players have a chance of receiving a higher bid at auction:

• Deol, Harleen
• Shafali Verma’s
• Dipti Sharma

The Inuargal WPL will take place between March 4 and March 26. Five teams were purchased for a total of INR 4669.99 crore. The first-ever WPL Player Auction drew 1525 players. The BCCI cut the list down to 409 players. At the event, a maximum of 90 players can be sold. The WPL Auction will take place on February 13 in Mumbai. Each time, a purse of Rs 12 crore is available. Players are divided into four categories: Rs 50 lakh, Rs 40 lakh, Rs 20 lakh, and Rs 10 lakh. 

Viacom 18 has broadcasting rights for WPL 2023. Fans and viewers can now watch Sports 18 Network channels to access the live telecast of the WPL 2023 auction on TV. People can also view the auction live on the Jio Cinema app and website.  

Women’s Premier League 2023 Venue

With two venues one in Mumbai – Brabourne Stadium, and the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai are the Women’s Premier League 2023 venues as the Board believes that teams will travel less. The tournament is tentatively scheduled to take place from March 4th to March 26th.
