Headlines: Top media and ad news in India for the week (16th May – 22nd May 2022)

Disney Star will be launching its Odia channel Star Kiran. Star Kiran will mark Disney Star’s entry into the seventh regional language market in India.

According to the latest e4m and GroupM ESP ‘India Online Gaming Report’, the online gaming industry in India is expected to grow to over Rs 15,000 Cr by 2023. The GoM report includes a proposal to increase GST that is levied on online gaming from 18% to 28%. 

The OTT video platform ALTBalaji has added 13 more shows in the last 12 months, which has taken its overall library to 90+ shows. The company has sold 3.88 Mn subscriptions in the last 12 months ending 31st March 2022. 

My11Circle which was launched in 2019 created a unique spot in the market, and witnessed 100% growth in user base in 2021. My11Circle has now partnered as the official title sponsor of Women’s T20 Challenge 2022. It also signed a 3-year partnership as official sponsor with Lucknow Super Giants. 

The search engine giant Google announced at the recently held Google I/O developer conference, that it will launch a new tool which will allow users to personalize their ads pop up. Two years after the pandemic, the Out-of-Home industry has finally started recovering from the loss, having a bumper April-May-June quarter, as movie promotions, summer brands, automobiles and OTT services have boosted their ad spends in the outdoor medium. OOH is expected to register 12-15% growth in comparison to the pre-pandemic period. (Source; E4M)

As per the latest research report by Digital TV Research, Global SVOD subscriptions will grow by 485 Mn between 2021 and 2027 and will reach 1.69 Bn. The report also states that Disney+ will overtake Netflix by 2025, with the addition of 144 Mn subscribers in between 2021 & 2027, making the overall subscription 274 Mn.
