Headlines: Top media ad news in India for the week (Date: 7th February – 14th February 2022)

The year 2022 will be the year of cricket. Industry experts are estimating that broadcasters may invest approx Rs 50,000 cr to acquire media rights for properties like IPL, ICC, and BCCI. Currently, the rights to all these three properties belong to Disney owned Star India. (Source- E4M)

Currently, BARC India is working towards a seamless release of individual channel data in the news genre. It intends to start the release from Week 10, 2022. As per the Exchange4Media reporting cycle, the data will be released in the market on 17th March 2022. 

BARC has decided not to release the channel-level estimates, be it rolled or unrolled, for the channels in the news genre in the time period of Week 40, 2020-Week 48, 2021. The news channels will also be given an option to opt out or opt-in of receiving the rolled data for the past 13 weeks before the news data is resumed.

ShareChat’s Moj & MX Media’s Taka Tak, the biggest short-video platforms in India, will join hands creating the largest short-video platform in India. The combination of the platforms will have more than 300 Million monthly active users, 100 Million creators and almost 250 billion monthly views on videos. 

Walt Disney’s Indian streaming service Disney+Hotstar gained 2.6 Mn paid subscribers in the 1st quarter of 2022, which has taken the total base to 45.9 Mn. The overall subscription base of the OTT platform has increased to 129.8 Mn from 118.1 Mn in 2021.

According to the Google annual Year in Search report 2021, e-commerce led to an increase of 533% in search for the D2C brands. The year 2021 even witnessed a surge of 350% in ‘hybrid workplace’ and 80% spike in “online doctor consultation”.

Twitter reported a growth of 22% in advertising revenue for the fourth quarter of 2022. The monetizable daily active users (or the users who watch ads) also increased by 13% to 217 Mn, which is higher than the previous quarter that had 211 Mn users. 

RAM Ratings Week 51’21 – Week 01’22: Fever FM tops the position in Mumbai, and Delhi again. Big FM and Radio Mirchi retain top spots in Bangalore and Kolkata respectively.

According to BARC weekly data, the following were the top 5 paid TV channels in week 5 (29th January – 4th February 2022) – 

Paid– Sun TV, STAR Utsav, Star Maa, Star Plus, Dhinchaak.
